Memoriam

introduction

Find out more

Death — the end to our lives and those of our loved ones. Our race and religion affect how we mourn, bid them goodbye, where we lay them down and how we continue to remember them. Today, death has become an intangible part of our culture. With our limited resources, such as land, how does Singapore deal with our dead? Many of our favourite homes and malls are built over exhumated cemeteries. The burial period for all graves is 15 years. After this period the remains are exhumed and stored in columbarium niches. For those whose religion forbids cremation, remains may be buried in smaller, individual plots. MEMORIAM hopes to take you on a journey: from the bidding of goodbye to the ways in which we continue to honour the dead.
